The Cornell Tech Campus Framework Plan—the rigorous and highly adaptable master plan developed for Cornell University’s Roosevelt Island campus in New York City—has won a 2020 AIA Regional & Urban Design Award. The master plan, which is one of only four winners in this year’s program, was designed by SOM in collaboration with James Corner Field Operations as Open Space Master Planner and Landscape Architect.
The award program recognizes outstanding, holistic urban design and planning projects. In their statement, the jury commented that the “submission exceeds the criteria of the honor award in all respects. [The] Cornell Tech Campus Framework Plan reconceives the role of the university in the city through economic, social, and environmental means.”
