Nearly 30 members of SOM's Chicago office participated in National Rebuilding Day on Saturday, April 28th. The annual event was hosted by the Metro Chicago chapter of Rebuilding Together, an organization dedicated to improving the homes of those in need across the United States. SOM, sponsoring a home for the 10th year in a row, volunteered in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.
Working with the homeowners, SOM identified the house's necessary improvements. They installed new handrails to meet current safety standards, replaced carpeting, reinstalled kitchen cabinets, repainted communal areas, and landscaped the yards. Additionally, with the assistance of volunteer electricians and plumbers, the group updated aging electrical systems and plumbing fixtures.
Across the city of Chicago, more than 3,000 volunteers helped repair 88 homes in this year's National Rebuilding Day.
