Charles Besjak: New Trends in Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit

The American Society of Civil Engineers Metropolitan Section Infrastructure Group and Polytechnic Institute of New York University Department of Civil Engineering present “New Trends in Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit,” a technical seminar and exhibition being held at NYU POLY’s Metrotech campus. Over the course of the two-day event, practicing structural engineers and educators will discuss best practices and new technologies to better understand seismic behavior in the analysis of current structural systems. Charles Besjak, SOM’s Director of Structural Engineering, will present “Seismic Analysis and Evaluation of New Structural Systems for the Design of Mega Structures,” as employed in SOM’s 450-meter-tall Nanjing Greenland Financial Center in Nanjing, China. His presentation will also address current evaluation strategies to define unique structural systems, including the application of diagrid systems in tall buildings.
