SOM Urban Planning and Design Partner Douglas Voigt and Associate Director Arathi Gowda have collaborated with Jonathan Salk—co-author of A New Reality and son of the late Jonas Salk, inventor of the polio vaccine—on a session proposal for the 2019 South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference. Titled “A New Reality: Hope for a World in Crisis,” the session will explore the current social, political, and economic climate and outline the task of designing a positive and more sustainable future.
“A New Reality: Hope for a World in Crisis” was submitted to the SXSW PanelPicker® and is up for community voting through Thursday, August 30th. Help SOM and Jonathan Salk get selected for the world-renowned innovation conference and vote for “A New Reality” now.
Drawing from natural principles and the original work of Jonas Salk, A New Reality posits that humanity has reached an epochal transition point—from values of limitless growth, competition, and independence, to a world that must embrace limits, equilibrium, cooperation, and interdependence. Successfully navigating this transition will not only assure our survival, but also result in a convergence of our highest ideals and enhance human wellbeing in every part of the planet.
