As well as introducing environmental awareness into the syllabus, classrooms themselves are getting a green makeover. The Cornell Tech Campus on Roosevelt Island, New York (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Handel Architects) for example, is on its way to becoming “one of the most environmentally friendly and energy-efficient campuses in the world” through state-of-the-art all-electric smart building features, solar power, geothermal ground source heat pumps and an energy-efficient facade. The campus is slated for completion in 2019.
