On Friday, August 18th, SOM Associate Director Yue Zhu and SOM Associate Amber Jan will speak at the 2017 Real Estate Design China (REDC) Awards Forum in Shanghai. Zhu and Jan, respectively based in SOM’s Chicago and Shanghai offices, will deliver a presentation on Beijing Greenland Center, the firm’s most recent addition to the growing Dawangjing Business District in Beijing. The two will shed light on the building’s design and sustainability strategies, including its unique trapezoidal glass curtain wall.
Organized by REDC, the event includes speakers from firms whose projects received REDC Awards in 2016-2017. In 2017, Beijing Greenland Center received an REDC Gold Award, the organization’s highest architectural honor.
Completed in 2016, Beijing Greenland Center reflects a new era of contemporary architecture in Beijing, incorporating office and residential programming in a slender, soaring tower atop a four-story retail podium. Clad in a modular system of sloped, woven glass panels, Beijing Greenland Center activates the landscape through a dynamic interplay of texture, light, and shadow.
