Gunnar Hand to Participate In PLEA 2016 Conference in Los Angeles

At the PLEA 2016 Conference on Tuesday, July 12th, in Los Angeles, Senior Urban Designer Gunnar Hand, from SOM’s Los Angeles office, will present his paper and infographic “Regenerative L.A.: Los Angeles Beyond Sustainability” as well as chair and moderate panel sessions.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Cities, Buildings, People: Towards Regenerative Environments.” It marks the first time in 35 years that the PLEA Conference has been held in the United States. An acronym for “Passive and Low Energy Architecture,” PLEA serves as an international and interdisciplinary open forum promoting high quality research, practice, and education in environmentally sustainable design.

SOM’s Los Angeles office has been working with firm-wide resources to research, define, and design a systems-based approach to urban design based on nine established principles that outline a regenerative city. An interdisciplinary collaboration produced with Senior Urban Designer Roger Weber in SOM’s Washington D.C. office, and Senior Graphic Designer Nathan Bluestone and Project Manager Jessica Sheehan in the San Francisco office, the PLEA paper and infographic advances SOM’s thinking about the city of the future.
