Craig Hartman is a 2016 William Bernoudy Architect in Residence at American Academy in Rome

The American Academy in Rome has announced that SOM Senior Consulting Design Partner Craig W. Hartman is a 2016 William Bernoudy Architect in Residence. Each year, the prestigious research and arts institution offers invitational residencies to senior figures in the fields of Architecture, Design, Historic Preservation and Conservation, and Landscape Architecture, along with a variety of other studies related to the arts.

During Hartman’s month-long residency this spring, he will serve as a senior advisor to Rome Prize recipients and to other members of the Academy community. The Academy awards the Rome Prize to a select group of artists and scholars, who are invited to Rome to pursue their work in an atmosphere conducive to intellectual and artistic freedom, interdisciplinary exchange, and innovation.

Hartman joins architects David Adjaye, and Jeanne Gang, for this honor, among other prominent residents including graphic designer Michael Bierut, architectural scholar Adrian Forty, actor and playwright Anna Deavere Smith, poet Bruce Smith, art history scholar David Stone, classical scholar Peter Struck, and artist Kara Walker.
