This November, experts from SOM’s sustainable engineering and digital design studios will lead a two-day energy modeling course at the Center for Architecture. Through presentations and hands-on exercises, Arpan Bakshi and Sebastian Claussnitzer will introduce participants to the types of modeling tools available and how each can be used to inform the design of high-performance buildings.
The course will demonstrate how energy modeling can be used throughout the entire lifespan of a project—from the earliest evaluations of site conditions through the final design. Bakshi and Claussnitzer will address the range of metrics available for quantifying building performance and how to identify the most appropriate metric to use in various scenarios. Participants will also learn how their collected energy data can be effectively communicated and presented.
The workshop is organized by the AIA NY Committee on the Environment. The course is open to students, AIA members, and non-AIA members. Previous energy modeling experience is not required.
