Mark Sarkisian, SOM Structural and Seismic Engineering Partner, will be a keynote speaker at the 39th Conference on Our World in Concrete & Structures. Sarkisian’s keynote will focus on his paper, “Innovations in Concrete Augmented by Steel,” which analyzes interesting opportunities that arise when reinforced concrete is augmented by structural steel. In most parts of the world, the price of structural steel is disproportionately high relative to reinforced concrete; however, it can be used strategically to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
