In collaboration with Nikken Sekkei, we are transforming Meitetsu Nagoya Station—a bold urban project that will create a next-generation transportation hub in the heart of Japan’s fourth-largest city.
Replacing six existing buildings, the 520,000-square-meter masterplan introduces two mixed-use skyscrapers: the northern tower will house offices and commercial spaces, while the southern tower will feature offices, a luxury hotel, and an integrated bus terminal. A signature element is the overhaul of Meitetsu Station itself, including dedicated platforms for airport-bound trains and increased capacity with two new platforms.

“Our vision for Nagoya Station goes beyond infrastructure,” said Principal Peter Lefkovits. “We’re creating a transit hub that integrates retail, public space, and mobility within a walkable people-first district, supporting daily life at every scale.”
The plan seamlessly connects the transit and retail program with terraces, plazas, and green promenades. A three-level pedestrian network and elevated aerial corridor provide accessibility across the cityscape, while articulated facades, generous setbacks, and a porous ground plane support the development’s integration with its surroundings.
This new urban gateway reflects SOM’s commitment to architecture that not only serves mobility but enhances public life—turning a complex transit center into a civic landmark at the heart of a reimagined Nagoya. The project builds on SOM’s previous work in Japan, being led by Kenichiro Suzuki.
