Chicago Tribune Names Adaptive Reuse of Cook County Hospital One of 2020’s Best Architecture Projects

After escaping demolition and years of dashed hopes for redevelopment, old Cook County Hospital reopened as a hotel, food hall and home of Cook County medical offices. The West Side project, by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and KOO architects, gave new life to a powerful symbol of compassionate care for the poor at the very time that doctors, nurses and other medical professions battled the coronavirus.
