On October 30th, the SOM-designed G-Cubed received a Citation Award in the 2018 AIA Los Angeles Design Awards. SOM Associate Brandon Horn, Associate David Renken, and senior designer Carlos Madrid III accepted the award at a ceremony at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California. At the event, exemplary projects were recognized in three categories: excellence in built work (Design Awards); unbuilt or yet-to-be-completed projects (Next LA Awards); and built work with a high level of sustainable and environmental performance (COTE LA Awards).
G-Cubed is a gym and rooftop garden amenity space built on top of an existing seven-story parking garage in Century City, California. SOM completed the architecture, structural, interiors, and graphics work on the project. As a new addition to The Plaza office complex, the facility takes advantage of previously unused space to provide sweeping city views. It introduces 22,000 square feet of landscaped outdoor space, a 1,600-square-foot main pavilion and fitness center, and 1,000 square feet of locker room facilities.
