On Thursday, July 19th, SOM Associate Director Dan Herman will participate in an event focused on the SOM-designed Pen Factory. The event, which includes a panel discussion and site tour of the building, is hosted by Urban Land Institute.
Pen Factory is an adaptive reuse project that transformed a long-abandoned manufacturing facility—a former Paper Mate pen factory—into a multi-tenant creative workplace. Inspired by its location in one of Santa Monica, California’s most active creative-office communities, the renovation promotes an open, casual, and flexible work environment for innovative companies.
David Martin, the Director of Planning and Community Development for the City of Santa Monica, and Rob Kane, Executive Vice President of the Lincoln Property Company, will join Herman. The three will discuss the Pen Factory project as well as the real estate market of Silicon Beach, a growing technology hub in Santa Monica and surrounding Westside Los Angeles communities. They will share insight on the challenges of the project and the solutions designed to address the needs of the tenants and the community.?
