San Francisco Interiors Team Participates in Fundraising Event for Philanthropy by Design

On Wednesday, February 21st, members of SOM’s interior design team in San Francisco participated in a fundraising event for the nonprofit organization Philanthropy by Design. The event, which was held at the Knoll showroom, brought together top designers from the Bay Area to create items out of remnants of FilzFelt—a felt fabric made out of German-milled wool. The items were then sold or auctioned off.

SOM’s Elissa Gee, Mikki Sullivan, Mel Casipit, and Eza Chung contributed felt artwork for the fundraiser, including two pillow designs, a necklace, and earrings. Money raised from the sale or auction of the items benefited local nonprofits that could not afford to upgrade their interior spaces.

Philanthropy by Design is a volunteer network of design industry professionals. Its mission is to renovate interiors of community service groups and to reuse discarded furniture. The organization serves the Bay Area and focuses on aiding at-risk youth, abused women, seniors, AIDS patients, and homeless people.
