On Thursday, March 15th, SOM Associate Director Thomas Kinzl will speak at AIA Chicago. His presentation, “Tianjin CTF Finance Centre: The Next Generation of Facades for Supertall Towers,” will focus on the opportunities provided by digital design tools, parametric design, and innovative, high-performing curtain wall systems to increase the feasibility of building facades on time and within bud?get.
The two-directionally curved building envelope of the SOM-designed 530-meter-tall Tianjin CTF Finance Centre will serve as a case study. Currently under construction and targeting completion in 2019, it has been designed to LEED® Gold standards.
Based in SOM’s Chicago office, Kinzl is responsible for the technical coordination and development of projects of all scales and typologies. As a technical designer, he plays an active role in shaping the firm’s technical strategies through research and development and through the monitoring and implementation of current trends in building technology.
