On Wednesday, December 6th, SOM Design Partner Brian Lee presented as a Top 5 Innovator in Design at HIVE 50’s second annual conference. The two-day event, which took place in Los Angeles, centered on the theme of the future of housing. In order to stimulate dialogue for the event’s theme, Lee referenced SOM’s collaborative AMIE 1.0 project and its award-winning 3D-printed, energy-efficient construction.
This year’s HIVE 50 celebrated fifty people, products, and processes that are providing leading inspiration for higher performance, better solutions, and creativity in the conversation around housing. Honorees were separated into five categories related to the subject: building technology, capital, intel, strategy, and design. Lee was honored in the design category.
AMIE 1.0, the Additive Manufacturing Integrated Energy project, is a groundbreaking research collaboration between SOM, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and several industry partners?. AMIE includes an integrated energy system that shares energy between a 3D-printed, natural gas-powered vehicle and a 3D-printed building.
