On Friday, October 20th, the University of California, Hastings College of the Law held a groundbreaking ceremony for the start of construction on a new academic facility. Academic leaders, alumni, local officials, community groups, and students attended the celebration in San Francisco. Speakers and participants included: David Faigman, UC Hastings Chancellor & Dean?; California State Senator Scott Wiener; David Seward, UC Hastings CFO; Carrie Byles, Managing Partner of SOM; and Steve Dell’Orto, Vice President of Clark Construction Group.
The SOM-designed building, the first step in UC Hastings’ longterm plan for the campus, will be located at 333 Golden Gate Avenue in San Francisco’s Civic Center district. The facility reimagines the school’s footprint by creating a new heart of the campus; the new building will replace the 198 McAllister Street facility and help UC Hastings consolidate programs rather than having some its facilities divided by local thoroughfares. The design centers on a vision that promotes productive collaboration and inspirational, informal interactions among students, faculty, and staff.
