An American Versailles

Washington DC is the capital of the mightiest empire the world has ever known. It is a curious fact that the seat of the government that sequenced the human genome and that put a man on the moon is oddly averse to one particular aspect of modern technology: the skyscraper. The city is not innocent of the concepts of steel-frame construction or elevators. But it exists almost as if it were. Offices downtown are constructed with modern methods and modern conveniences. But they don’t truly take advantage of them.
