Steven Sobel is a director in SOM’s San Francisco office. He has been with SOM in both Chicago and the West Coast offices for more than 30 years and has experience in the management and development of a wide range of project types: civic, mixed-use, corporate headquarters, hotel and residential, and entertainment.
Sobel has extensive experience managing complicated projects with multiple client groups and consultants in the United States and in Asia. Additionally, he specializes in leading the teams through large-scale projects that involve multiple levels of functional requirements and program objectives.
Sobel’s accomplished portfolio of new construction and renovation projects include the San Bernardino Justice Center, St. Regis Hotel and Residences, San Diego Courthouse, 101 Second Street, and Kia Motors America Headquarters and Design Center — all in California. Other notable projects include 222 South Main Street in Salt Lake City; the Fubon Banking Center in Tapei, Taiwan; and the PB Com Tower and the Asian Development Bank Headquarters in Manila, Philippines.
He is currently working on 350 Mission Street, a high-rise office project in San Francisco that will establish a new benchmark in sustainable design.
