Jonathan Stein is a managing partner in SOM’s Chicago office. Since joining the firm in 1999, he has led the delivery of large, complex projects around the world. Stein charts the course of the Chicago office, broadening and deepening the office’s expertise, mentoring talent, and steering firmwide practice areas, including interior design and the firm’s efforts in the Asia Pacific region.
Stein’s portfolio includes large-scale mixed-use, commercial, financial, healthcare, interiors, education, and master planning projects around the globe. His notable projects include Tokyo Midtown in Japan, Tanjong Pagar Centre in Singapore, AIA Tower in Hong Kong, and ongoing work on large, mixed-use developments in Southeast Asia. Stein’s work on Pertamina Energy Tower—a proposed 99-story, highly sustainable development in Jakarta, Indonesia—reinforces the firm’s commitment to high-performance design, achieved through an integrated approach to architecture, engineering, and urban planning.
In the United States, Stein’s recent projects include a Roche Diagnostics training and education facility in Indianapolis, a LEED-certified facility at Cleveland Clinic’s Florida campus, and the residential Lincoln Commons project in Chicago.
