Two SOM Projects Honored in ULI New York Awards

Two SOM projects have been honored in the Urban Land Institute’s 2018 Awards for Excellence in Development. The 65-story 252 East 57th Street won the Excellence in Mixed-Use Development award, and the Moynihan Train Hall’s West End Concourse was named a finalist in the Excellence in Civic Space category.

Located in Midtown Manhattan, 252 East 57th Street is a 65-story mixed-use tower with a distinctive curving facade. The residential unit mix—173 rental apartments and 93 condominiums—is positioned to maximize longterm value. The project is the result of a public-private partnership with World Wide Group and Rose Associates. Along with the commercial retail space at street level, the redevelopment of the site includes two public schools.

The West End Concourse at Moynihan Train Hall encompassed the first phase of the redevelopment of New York City’s Penn Station. The concourse provides access to 17 of the station’s 21 tracks and will link the future Moynihan Train Hall to Penn Station. The project’s second phase, the redesign of the Train Hall, is anticipated to open in 2020.
