The Strand Receives National Excellence in Structural Engineering Award

The National Council of Structural Engineers Association (NCSEA) has honored SOM’s renovation of the Strand Theater with its 2015 award for Excellence in Structural Engineering in the category of Forensic/Renovation/Retrofit/Rehabilitation Structures over $20 Million. The honor recognizes creative achievement and innovation in structural engineering. Representing the project team, SOM Structural Engineering Associates Jeffrey Keileh and Joanna Zhang received the award at a ceremony on Friday, October 2nd during the 2015 NCSEA Structural Engineering Summit in Las Vegas.

SOM applied the expertise of its architects and structural engineers to design this renovation and adaptive reuse project, which transformed an abandoned 100-year-old cinema into an intimate performance venue and bustling education center for the city’s preeminent theater company, American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.).
