The jury of Building Design + Construction's (BD+C) Building Team Awards has named the Superior Court of California in San Diego as a Gold Award winner. One of four Gold Award winners in this year's awards program, the courthouse will be featured in the May 2018 print issue of BD+C.
The annual awards program, now in its 21st year, honors projects that exemplify the value of the design-build approach. Submissions were judged on excellence in design, engineering, and construction, as well as on an evaluation of how the project teams overcame obstacles and supported success through collaboration.
The courthouse, which opened in 2017, consolidates San Diego County’s criminal trial, family, and civil courts into a 25-story tower. SOM worked closely with the Judicial Council of California, Administrative Office of the Courts, the owner; Rudolph and Sletten, Inc., the general contractor; and WSP, MEP engineer, on the design-build project.
