At an inaugural event in San Francisco, the SOM Women’s Initiative (SOMWI) announced the establishment of a West Coast chapter on May 13, 2015. The new group advocates equitable practice, and it provides women with mentorship opportunities and other resources that cultivate their professional growth and leadership.
Following its launch, the West Coast chapter of SOMWI will create year-long programs that underscore its mission, as well as quarterly benchmark events that include panel discussions, presentations, and mentorship roundtables. The group, which welcomes all individuals, is organized into five sub-committees overseeing specific action items.
The SOM Women’s Initiative was established in 2011 to promote the continued development and success of women at SOM and in the design disciplines generally. SOMWI encourages personal and professional support within the firm through various platforms and internal networks.
