SOM’s London Office in the Broadgate Tower will be open to the public on Saturday, September 16th as part of a citywide Open House initiative. An annual event launched in 1992, Open House London aims to promote public awareness and appreciation of design and architecture by offering participants a sneak peek into buildings not typically open to the public.
Tours led by SOM architects will offer attendees the chance to gain insight into the workings of SOM’s global practice and to understand the design of this unique building. The 11,000 square-foot office is designed to respect and express the key architectural and structural principles of the 35-story Broadgate Tower.
The design of the studio space uses a restrained and contemporary palette that emphasizes the tower’s strong engineering principles. An air-rights building situated above Liverpool Street station’s 18 train tracks, the tower is supported by six striking A-frame trusses.
