The Great Lakes Vision Plan received the organization’s top prize, the Louis Sullivan Honor Award. “The jury was in awe of the 100-year plan’s comprehensiveness and scale, and the way it redefines the urban perspective to a larger ecosystem and human habitat, while proposing bold strategies for environmental restoration and economic renewal,” according to a statement from AIA Illinois.

The Mies van der Rohe Citation of Merit was given to the University of North Carolina Genome Science Lab for innovation in overall concept. SOM Urban Design Partner Philip Enquist received the prestigious R. Buckminster Fuller Award for “exemplary dedication to humanitarian concerns, social impact or community endeavors.”
