On Saturday, October 14th, SOM will participate in Open House Chicago, an annual citywide event hosted by the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF). Throughout the day, SOM staff will lead guided visits of the Chicago office, shed light on the firm’s multidisciplinary approach to design, and discuss recent work. Open House visitors will have the opportunity to explore? the SOM model gallery and see our scale model of the City of Chicago, and to observe the SOM wind tunnel and learn about the latest proposed skyscraper designs.
Open House guests are invited to enter the #SOMinChicago Instagram contest and take a limited-edition SOM pocket map of Chicago to continue exploring the firm’s work following the office tours. Both the contest and the map were created in celebration of the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial. Guests are also encouraged to visit “SOM: Engineering x [Art + Architecture],” a pop-up exhibition revealing SOM’s integrated practice of engineering, art, and architecture, at 345 N. Morgan Street in Chicago’s West Loop.
SOM is one of more than 200 locations participating in Open House Chicago 2017. In 2016, more than 2,200 guests visited SOM for Open House Chicago.
