SOM to Compete in CTBUH Award Finals

Three SOM-designed projects will compete as finalists in the 2018 Tall + Urban Innovation Conference Awards in Chicago. Presented by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), the conference focuses on innovation in the design and construction of tall buildings around the world.

During the two-day event, owners, developers, and design teams representing 48 finalist projects will compete for awards. Juries will assess each presentation and select winners in eight categories. Each of these winners will go on to compete for the event’s highest overall honor, “Best Tall Building Worldwide.”

SOM Design Director Javier Arizmendi, Design Partner Leo Chow, and Associate Director Peter Lee will represent the SOM projects: Poly Real Estate Headquarters in Guangzhou; Poly International Plaza in Beijing; and 111 Main in Salt Lake City. SOM Structural Engineering Partner William F. Baker will preside over the “Best Tall Building, Middle East & Africa” panel of the conference.

On Wednesday, May 30th, Arizmendi will present Poly Real Estate Headquarters, which is competing in the 10-Year Award category. On Thursday, May 31st, Chow will present Poly International Plaza, a finalist in the Best Tall Building (Asia & Australasia) category. On the same day, Lee will present 111 Main, a finalist in the Construction Award category.
