Reconstructing Iconic SOM Towers Using Everyday Objects

Directed by artist and designer Luis Urculo, “Covers” presents iconic architecture constructed of everyday objects. Two landmark SOM buildings are featured in the video: John Hancock Center and Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower).

Other buildings include Guggenheim Museum New York and Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright; National Congress of Brazil by Oscar Niemeyer; New Museum and Villa in the Forest by SANAA; Marina City Towers by Bletrand Goldberg; Farnsworth House by Mies Van der Rohe; and Wozocos by MVRDV.

Here’s a statement about the project from Uculo: “Covers is an investigation about architecture as a consumption object or souvenir and its relation with the domestic non-specialized language of everyday things. The work is a reconstruction and review of iconic monumental pieces of architecture whose image is built by objects to change the perception of this universal masterworks. The concept is based on the music covers where the original is manipulated, re-represented, revisited to create something new.”
