One Manhattan West and Tianjin CTF Finance Center have received a total of six awards in the 2020 Professional Project Awards, a program hosted by the Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
One Manhattan West took home three honors, winning Best Overall Project, an Award of Excellence in Architectural Engineering Integration, and an Award of Merit in Structural Systems Design. The 70-story office tower is part of the larger Manhattan West Development in New York City. The tower is located on a challenging site above the underground train tracks that lead into Pennsylvania Station. The design team turned this constraint into an opportunity by sloping in the perimeter columns of the supertall tower to its core, creating a column-free lobby at the base.
Tianjin CTF Finance Centre was also honored in three categories, winning Most Innovative Project, the Award of Excellence in Structural Systems Design, and the Award of Merit in Architectural Engineering Integration. The 530-meter-tall, mixed-use tower—a striking fusion of structural and architectural expression—utilizes an innovative structural system and creative detailing to deliver an efficient, strong, high performing, and cost-effective design.
The ASCE's AEI Professional Project Awards recognize outstanding achievement in design and construction. The annual program educates students and professionals through the application of academic studies to practice, with a focus on the art and science of an integrated approach to architectural engineering.
