Nicholas Scalco to Give Presentation About Data Mining

Nicholas Scalco, SOM Senior Digital Designer, will speak at the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Technology Symposium tomorrow. The annual conference brings together computational specialists to discuss and present how they use technology to enhance building design and construction.

Scalco’s presentation, titled “Implicit Knowledge to Explicit Action: Data Mining for Organizational Awareness,” will focus on current efforts at SOM to aggregate institutional knowledge and data produced from current Building Information Models (BIM) to enhance and inform all phases of the design process.

Scalco will discuss SOM’s program, called Project Dashboard, a tool first developed to streamline the design of BIM projects and help keep large models organized and running efficiently. Project Dashboard has evolved to present important project statistics in a clear “at a glance” way and provides historical design and technical data, in addition to model use and modeling habits, that designers can use to guide best practices.
