National Geographic Features Burj Khalifa and William Baker in Engineering Marvels Series

The National Geographic series "Superstructures: Engineering Marvels" features an interview with SOM structural engineer and consulting partner William F. Baker, responsible for the engineering of Burj Khalifa. At 828 meters, the Dubai skyscraper stands as the world’s tallest building. Baker discusses how his team developed the "buttressed core" structural system, which helps the skyscraper withstand  strong winds, severe weather, and lightning strikes. 

Burj Khalifa is the only skyscraper included in the "Superstructures" series, which reveals the extraordinary feats of engineering behind the world’s most spectacular manmade structures.
