The SOM-designed Nanhu New Country Village Master Plan has won a Merit Award from the American Planning Association (APA), California Chapter, Northern Section. The project was recognized in the "Innovation in Green Community Planning" category.

Nanhu is a thoughtful response to China’s rapid urbanization and diminishing agricultural landscape. A first of its kind in scale and goals, the project sets a new standard for modern, ecological, and agricultural village living, and serves as a model for future development throughout China.

The purpose of the APA's awards program is to encourage quality in planning and to increase the public’s awareness of the planning profession. Each year, the California Chapter, Northern Section honors projects that represent the most outstanding efforts in planning in the region.
