In the Spotlight: SOM’s Global Airport Portfolio

Passenger Terminal World magazine recently named 20 of its favorite airports built in the last 20 years. SOM played a significant role at four of the selected hubs: Changi International Airport, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, San Francisco Airport, and Auckland Airport.

Completed by SOM in 2007, Singapore’s Changi International Airport Terminal 3 is cited for its numerous sustainable design features, including the spectacular system of glass skylights that filter sunlight to the passenger areas below. SOM’s 4.4-million-square-foot Terminal 2 in Mumbai is noted for its integration of art and cutting-edge technologies, while the San Francisco Airport — including the construction of SOM’s International Terminal in 2000 — makes the list for its sweeping expansions and modernizations throughout the past 20 years. Auckland Airport also makes its way into Passenger Terminal World’s roundup. SOM recently completed a master plan for this facility, which hopes to expand significantly in the coming years.
