Exhibition in Cologne Displays SOM’s History of Structural Engineering

For decades, SOM has developed groundbreaking structural engineering solutions for some of the world’s most complex built projects. From the Sears Tower (now Willis Tower) in Chicago to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the firm’s integrated approach to structural engineering has defined city skylines and advanced the field of architecture.

The exhibition “The Engineering of Architecture” tells this story through a range of media including models, video, photography, drawings, sculpture, and interactive animations. It delves into SOM’s storied history of research, design, and realization of cutting-edge buildings and displays some of the firm’s most complex and innovative projects.

First presented at the Architekturgalerie in Munich and the Utzon Center in Aalborg, Denmark, the exhibition now opens at AIT-ArchitekturSalon in Cologne. Following an opening reception on Wednesday, March 22nd, the exhibition will be on view through May 11th.
