Dawveed Scully Participates in Exhibition at South by Southwest

From March 10th through March 13th, 2019, ?SOM senior urban designer Dawveed Scully will participate in an exhibition at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. Titled “Say it Loud,” the exhibition showcases projects by minority design professionals, as well as video interviews in which they share their experiences in the architecture and design industry. Scully will exhibit his work on “Reinvesting in Robbins,” a planning study for Robbins, Illinois.

Scully is based in SOM’s Chicago office. An architect and urbanist, he is passionate about using design as a tool for empowerment and collaboration among local residents, stakeholders, and government for equitable design outcomes.

“Say it Loud” was created to elevate the identities and experiences of minorities in design and inspire future generations. Organized by Beyond the Built Environment, an architecture activism group, “Say it Loud” is supported by the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) and has been previously exhibited at the AIA National Conference on Architecture and AIA New York/Center for Architecture as well as at the United Nations.

The projects included in the exhibition are eligible for a South by Southwest people’s choice award. Votes can be submitted online at the link below.
