Call for Entries: SOM Foundation 2018 China Prize

The SOM Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2018 SOM Foundation China Prize. The prize, consisting of three $5,000 USD traveling fellowships, is open to students in architecture and urban design who are pursuing degrees in China. Awarded annually, the prize allows emerging design leaders to broaden their education through travel so that they may gain a deeper understanding of how their work will contribute to the built and natural environments.

Undergraduate and graduate students based in China are eligible for the prize; Chinese citizenship is not required. Students must be in their last two years of a degree program in architecture or urban design. To enter, students must submit a portfolio, research proposal, and travel itinerary. Applications must be submitted by Friday, April 13th, 2018, midnight Shanghai time. See the SOM Foundation website? for competition guidelines and more information. A jury of leading architects and design professionals in China will select the winners.

The SOM Foundation grants a variety of awards to students of architecture, design, urban design, and structural engineering. The Foundation’s goal is to instill in its fellows a heightened sense of responsibility as future design leaders. First awarded in 1981, the SOM Foundation fellowships are now an important measure of achievement among architecture and engineering students and their colleges and universities. The awards given are: the SOM Foundation Prize for Architecture, Design, and Urban Design; the SOM Foundation Travel Fellowship for Architecture, Design, and Urban Design; the SOM Foundation Structural Engineering Travel Fellowship; the SOM Foundation UK Award; and the SOM Foundation China Prize.
