Brightline has earned recognition for both architecture and urban planning in the 2020 AIA | DC Chapter Design Awards. The project—a high-speed rail line connecting Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach—won the Architecture Award and received a citation in the Urban Catalyst category. SOM, in association with Zyscovich Architects, designed and planned each of the three stations in the 235-mile rail Brightline network.
A shared contemporary design aesthetic unifies the three stations. Inspired by their urban settings and climate, the buildings express a synthesis between architecture and infrastructure. MiamiCentral, the largest station, integrates mixed-use retail, residential, and commercial development. Each of the stations serves as a gateway to its respective city and a new civic landmark.
