SOM Associate Director Dawveed Scully has been named as one of Crain's 40 Under 40 Chicago leaders for 2020. Every year, Crain's selects business, nonprofit, government, and cultural leaders who have contributed greatly to the City and its communities.
Scully first joined SOM in 2008 as an intern in SOM's City Design Practice. As an Associate Director and Senior Urban Designer, Scully spearheads complex urban planning projects at the neighborhood, district, and city scale through an equitable design lens. He has helped lead SOM's approach to community engagement, refining the firm's strategies for better engaging and championing the communities we serve. By facilitating robust collaboration between stakeholders, local government, and empowering citizens during the design process, Scully uses design as a tool for effective and lasting change.
For the 2020 fall semester, Scully is teaching an advanced design studio at the Illinois Institute of Technology, his alma mater. Scully was awarded the ULI Chicago Young Visionary Award in 2018 and recently selected to participate in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s transition committee on Business, Economic, and Neighborhood Development. He is a 2021 Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow and currently serves on the CCAC Burnham Council.
