In the 2016 edition of Architect 50, an annual ranking of industry leaders, SOM is ranked third overall among this year’s top 50 firms. Recognized for its leadership in business, sustainability, and design, SOM was selected from a field of 136 architecture firms that qualified for evaluation this year. The survey is administered by Architect Magazine, the journal of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
SOM’s overall ranking is based on its performance in 2015 in three main categories: business, sustainability, and design. SOM ranked sixth in the design category, based on upon a jury’s evaluation of the firm’s design portfolio, as well as other considerations such as research and pro bono work. SOM also took tenth place in sustainability, a category that privileges firms that participate in the AIA’s 2030 Commitment program and other green building initiatives.
