2015 MIPIM Asia Awards Recognizes Two SOM Projects

Two SOM projects have been selected for the 2015 MIPIM Asia Awards, which recognizes innovation and excellence in real estate development. This year’s winners include the Tianjin CTF Finance Centre in the Best Chinese Future Mega Project category, and Ayala Triangle Gardens—North in the Best Futura Mega Project category. A voting period open to the MIPIM Asia community will determine each finalist’s ranking—bronze, silver, or gold—which will be presented at the MIPIM Asia Awards Gala Dinner on December 1, 2015 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Hong Kong.

Tianjin CTF Finance Centre, a 530-meter skyscraper, will contain offices, apartments, and a five-star hotel. Its design uses undulating curves to subtly express these three programmatic elements, while presenting a bold, singular expression on the skyline. Designed to meet LEED® Gold standards, the 389,980-square-meter building’s sustainable strategies include a high-performance envelope, optimized daylighting, and green landscaping. The tower will create a striking new landmark in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA), located just outside Tianjin.

Ayala Triangle Gardens—North, a 126,000-square-meter development, will generate a new center of cultural gravity in Manila’s established Makati district. The project consists of a 40-story office tower and a 23-story luxury hotel tower set atop a four-story mixed-use podium. The podium’s unique design connects the development to the district’s bustling activity. With sloped facades that double as green lawns, grand public stairs, cutaway voids that create plaza space, and multiple access points on different levels, the project will serve as an architectural node that enlivens the area.
