
Gene Schnair

Gene Schnair is a consulting partner in SOM’s San Francisco office specializing in the management of large-scale, complex projects. His extensive international experience spanning the globe provides him with a broad and creative perspective of urbanism, the built environment, and professional practice.
Since 2000, Schnair has steered the firm’s practice in China, working to advance industry standards for international design services and contracting. He has been interviewed for numerous articles on China’s booming real estate development market for national and international publications. He has served in leadership roles in industry committees on international practice.
Schnair is also recognized for his success in leading some of the firm’s most complex urban design and government projects, including: Canary Wharf Master Plan, a new financial services hub for Europe; San Francisco Civic Center Complex, the largest design-build project ever undertaken by the State of California; and the U.S. Embassy Complex in Beijing, one of the largest projects ever undertaken by the U.S. Department of State.
