7 World Trade Center – Sustainable Design

As the first LEED® Gold certified high-rise office building in New York City, 7 World Trade Center has a long list of sustainable design features. These include ample open space; energy conservation strategies such as steam-to-electricity turbine generators and rainwater reuse for building cooling and park irrigation; and waste reduction through the use of materials made with recycled content. Moreover, the separate metering of each floor provides an incentive for tenants to reduce energy consumption.

SOM created comprehensive documentation detailing the sustainable aspects of the tower’s core and shell, with design and construction guidelines for tenants that maximize these features of the building.
