On September 27th, SOM Structural and Civil Engineering Partner William F. Baker will participate in the 2016 symposium of the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS). Founded in 1959, the IASS works to advance the design of lightweight structural systems such as lattice, tension, membrane, and shell structures. Its annual symposium will take place this year in Tokyo.
Joining a panel discussion titled "Spatial Structures in the 21st Century," Baker will discuss the winning entry for an international student design competition, led by IASS, for the New National Stadium in Toyko. The panel will bring together the full competition jury, which included Baker alongside leading structural engineers and academics from Nagoya University, the University of Tokyo, and the engineering firm Schlaich Bergermann Partner.
