On Tuesday, November 14th, SOM Structural Engineering Partner William F. Baker will deliver a keynote presentation at the sixth Structural Engineers World Congress (SEWC) in Cancun, Mexico. Themed "Architectural and Structural Design for Enriching Human Habitats," the congress will focus on the latest developments to improve safety and reduce environmental impact while rehabilitating existing infrastructure and building new infrastructure.
An advocate for integrated architectural-engineering practice, Baker has dedicated his career to advancing the profession of structural engineering through design, research, teaching, and professional activities. He has led the structural design of some of the world's most influential buildings, including the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the tallest manmade structure on earth.
Mexico is devoting substantial resources to maintain and rehabilitate aged and damaged infrastructure, as well as to build new sustainable infrastructure. SEWC is an opportunity for an exchange of knowledge and research from regional and international practitioners to support this goal.
