The New York State chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) recently announced the winners of its 2015 Design Awards. SOM’s University Center at The New School was honored with a citation in the Institutional category. The annual awards program celebrates the “creativity and imagination” of New York State architects through their projects across the globe. This year, 42 projects were awarded across 13 categories.
Located at the intersection of 14th Street and 5th Avenue in Manhattan, the University Center at The New School is a 350,000 square foot, multipurpose facility with academic space on the first seven floors and a 600-bed dormitory on the levels above. The LEED® Gold building resides at the “heart” of The New School and provides space for all aspects of a traditional campus.
The University Center and other winners will be recognized at the AIA New York State Design Conference in October 2015, in Saratoga Springs, New York.
