On Monday, June 5th, the Urban Land Institute (ULI) announced its selection of 25 finalists for the 2017 Global Awards for Excellence. Two educational facilities designed by SOM—University Center – The New School in Manhattan, and The Kathleen Grimm School for Leadership and Sustainability at Sandy Ground on Staten Island—are both finalists. The award winners will be announced in October 2017.
Established in 1979 and widely recognized as one of the most prestigious award programs in the land use industry, the Global Awards for Excellence recognize developments around the world that achieve the highest standard of excellence in innovative design, construction, economics, planning, and management. A multidisciplinary jury comprising international ULI members selected the 25 finalists.
“Each of these finalists demonstrates a thoughtful, innovative approach to urban development that is adding to the sustainability and livability of the communities in which they are located,” said Wendy Rowden, Global Awards Jury Chairman. “The attention paid to project detail, flexible design, and neighborhood context were among the factors making these entries stand out. They represent the type of development that will withstand the tests of time and change.”
