SOM’s Kansas City Airport Revamp Wins Voter Approval

Kansas City voters have overwhelmingly approved the plan to overhaul the Kansas City International Airport (KCI). The $1 billion project, led by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), will see the demolition of three terminals and the consolidation of all operations into one volume.

SOM’s design will aim to maintain the original structure’s zealous connection to the street while adjusting the original design’s clover-like form to an “H” shape. The new terminal would host two concourses and 35 gates, with arrivals and departures located on separate levels altogether.
