SOM Wins Arch Record's 'Good Design is Good Business' Award

Architectural Record and American Architectural Foundation celebrate SOM at Annual Gala

New York, NY: SOM, the renowned architecture, engineering, interiors and planning firm, is the recipient of the first ever Architectural Record Good Design is Good Business Lifetime Achievement Award. The firm was honored at the American Architectural Foundation’s 2012 Accent on Architecture Gala, held on March 9th in Washington, DC at the historic Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium. SOM is the first firm ever to receive a Good Design is Good Business Lifetime Achievement Award.

Formerly known as the BusinessWeek/Architectural Record Awards, the Architectural Record Good Design is Good Business Awards honor the architects and clients who best utilize design to achieve strategic business objectives. Eight SOM-designed buildings (Arcs de Seine HRO Group in Paris; Virginia Beach Convention Center; U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland; The Ledge at Skydeck Chicago; Poly Real Estate Headquarters in Guangzhou, China; U.S. Embassy – Beijing; Beijing Finance Street; and Jianianhua Center in Chongqing, China) have been honored in the past 12 years for “demonstrating how thoughtful architecture, cohesive collaborations, and sustainable resource management can benefit a client’s bottom line, productivity levels, and preparedness for the future.”

The Honorable Michael A. Nutter, Mayor of the City of Philadelphia; the U.S. Green Building Council; and Haworth, Inc. were among the other honorees at the American Architectural Foundation’s annual gala.
